Dew Days parade unit hits power line, parade stalls
The Farmington Dew Days parade started off with a bang Saturday afternoon, as a semi truck ucaught a low-hanging power line about 15 minutes into the parade.

The Murphy property south of Co. Rd. 50 is now minus an old farmhouse and garage, thanks to a June 9 controlled burn conducted by the Farmington Fire Department.

Saturday grass fire burns 60 acres
Dry conditions and high winds fueled a grass fire that burned approximately 60 acres of land between Farmington and Lakeville Saturday night. Farmington firefighters battled the blaze for about 3 1/2 hours, encountering numerous setbacks thanks to Mother Nature along the way.

Fire risk is high this weekend
Farmington firefighters dealt with two brush fires over the weekend, and the city’s fire marshal believes conditions will be ripe for more in the days ahead.
The first of the two fires was reported at noon Saturday in the woods behind Dodge Middle School. The second was reported at 4 p.m. Sunday in a rural area off of 220th Street. Fire marshal John Powers said both were under control within about an hour.

Fire displaces apartment complex residents for a night
Residents of Farmington’s Centennial Apartments had to find someplace else to sleep Feb. 29 after a fire forced them to evacuate their homes that same morning.
The fire was contained mainly to one second floor unit. Its cause is still under investigation.

Fire breaks out at Starr Automotive Friday
Fires seem to get put out pretty quickly when a firefighter is on the scene before they start. Farmington Fire Station 1 captain Adam Fischer was at Starr Automotive – owned by his dad, Ed Fischer – when a fire broke out Friday morning in the attic, near a chimney on the south side of the building.

Early-morning barn fire ruled arson
An early morning fire on the University of Minnesota’s UMore Park property has been ruled an arson by the Dakota County Sheriff's department.
Called in just after 2 a.m. Thursday, the blaze leveled a pole barn off of Lone Rock Trail on the University-owned property.
