Dakota County Jail deputy charged with sex offenses
Raul Rubio Mascorro, who is employed as a jail deputy at the Dakota County Jail in Hastings, has been charged with two felony offenses – first degree criminal sex conduct and criminal sex conduct in the second degree. As of Dec. 23 he remained housed in the Scott County Jail. He has been on military leave from Dakota County.

Dakota county levy stays steady, but taxes will likely increase
The Dakota County Board of Commissioners did Tuesday what it said it would do. It kept the county levy the same as this year — $129.4 million.
The levy is the amount taxpayers will pay to support county programs and services.

County wants input on planned greenway routes
The Dakota County Parks department is looking for residents’ opinions about its plans for two future greenway corridors in Rosemount and Empire Township. While the projects are years away, county planner John Mertens said the county wants to know what people think of the concept. The parks department will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Rosemount Community Center.

County seeks photos for exhibition
Photographers looking to display their work can submit their original photos to be considered for a new exhibit planned for Feb. 2012. Photographers age 8 and older may submit up to two photographs reflecting the theme Dakota County Outdoors. They must live in Dakota County, and submissions are due by Monday, Jan. 2, 2012.

Dakota County is planning to once again hold steady its share of residents’ property taxes for 2012. The preliminary levy, as set in September, is at $129.4 million.

Car-deer crashes up in October on county roads
October was a bad month for cars and deer on Dakota County roads. Of the 57 accidents involving deer this year in the county, 14 took place last month.
That’s slightly less than a quarter of the year’s total in one 31-day stretch.

Christy Jo Fogarty, a nine-year member of the Farmington City Council, has announced plans to seek the Dakota County Commissioner seat being vacated next year by current commissioner Joe Harris.

Dakota County named an international Smart21 community
Dakota County is developing a reputation as a smart place to live and work.
For the third year in a row the county has been named a Smart21 Community by the Intelligent Community Forum. The county was recognized along with 21 other communities worldwide including Arlington County, Va.; Curitaba, Parana, Brazil; and Oulu, Finland.
