Girls basketball review: Tigers made history in 2010-11

A focus on defense helped the Farmington girls basketball team meet most of its lofty goals during the 2010-11 season. The Tigers held their opponents to an average of 40.2 points per game, the lowest of any of the Class 3A and 4A teams in Minnesota. They started the season with a school-record 11-game winning streak and went on to win a share of the program’s first Missota Conference title by posting an 11-3 record in league play.

Girls basketball: An unhappy end for the Tiger season

All season long Farmington took advantage of its size and athleticism to produce high-percentage inside shots and dominate on the offensive glass. The Tigers used that formula to pile up a school-record 23 wins against three losses, win a share of the program’s first-ever Missota Conference championship and advance as the No. 1 seed all the way to the Section 1AAAA championship.

Section 1AAAA girls basketball finals: A night to forget for Farmington

Farmington's shooting started out cold and never warmed up Friday night at the Rochester Rec Center. Second-seeded Rochester Mayo scored the game's first seven points and never trailed as it advanced to the Class 4A State Tournament with a 49-35 upset of the 23-3 Tigers.

Girls baskeball: Tigers are one game from state

Trailing 10-8 six minutes into Saturday night’s Section 1AAAA semifinals, the Farmington girls basketball team didn’t panic. Instead, the Tigers held Rochester Century scoreless for the next nine minutes and went on a 22-2 run that put them control in an eventual 64-29 rout at Tiger Gym that moved them within a game of the program’s first state tournament berth.

Free admission for students wearing orange and black to Friday's basketball game

The athletics department will be offering free admission to all high school students (grades 9-12) who come to the Friday, Feb. 25 girls’ basketball game in orange and/or black. In addition, the athletics department will be distributing a ticket to each high school student attending the event wearing orange and/or black. If the athletics department distributes a minimum of 300 tickets, those student who received tickets can return to the Section 1AAAA semifinal game on Saturday, March 5 – 7 p.m. at Farmington HS and redeem that ticket for pizza following the Section 1AAA semifinal game.

Girls basketball: Meyer scores 1,000th point

Junior Taylor Meyer scored her 1,000th career point with a free throw early in the first half and Farmington went on to win its school-record 20th game of the season, 53-42 over Northfield Friday night at Tiger Gym. The game wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate. The Tigers held Northfield scoreless over the first five-plus minutes and led 29-9 at the break. The score was 38-16 before the Raiders started to slowly chip away over the final 10 minutes.
