Football: Big-play Trojans roll, 28-14

Another slow start left Farmington with too big a deficit to overcome in Wednesday night’s regular season finale in New Prague. The Tigers, who have lost six in a row since their lone victory of the season over Red Wing in Week 2, fell behind 21-0 by halftime on Wednesday as New Prague ate up the clock with 442 rushing yards in a 28-14 win.

Tigers will face Lakeville North in section football rematch

For the second straight year, Farmington will square off against Lakeville North in the opening round of the Section 1AAAAA football playoffs. The Tigers (1-7) earned the No. 7 seed and a rematch against the second-seeded Panthers, who won last year's section game, 33-12.

Football: Tigers show improvement at Northfield

The Farmington football team is starting to get the hang of its new spread offense. The Tigers, who were shut out in back-to-back games at Chanhassen and at Shakopee earlier this season, have put up 43 points in their last two losses. The latest setback was a 21-16 nail-biter on the road against a conference-leading Northfield team that had outscored its previous four opponents by a combined 114-28.

Week 5: A Homecoming heartbreaker

Farmington head coach Mark Froehling envisioned Nate Graham catching a pitch from the holder, breaking around the side of the defensive line and sprinting into the right corner of the end zone for a go-ahead two-point conversion late in Friday's Homecoming game. Instead, the flip on the fake extra point sailed high, hit off of Graham's hands and fell to the Tiger Stadium turf. The excitement generated by senior Sebren Baer's touchdown moments earlier - with 56 seconds left on the game clock - quickly gave way to a stunned silence as Holy Angels recovered the ball and redeemed it for a 28-27 Missota Conference victory.

Football: Tigers trip up Red Wing, 21-14

Friday night’s Missota Conference opener was plenty sloppy, but the Farmington football team will take it. In a rain-filled game that featured nearly 20 penalties, five turnovers and three long snaps that sailed over the heads of punters, the Tigers overcame an early 14-point deficit to get in the win column with a 21-14 victory over Red Wing under the lights at Tiger Stadium.
