Cross country: Boys show progress at section meet

Looking at only the team standings, a casual observer would see the Farmington boys cross country team slipped from eighth at last year’s section meet to ninth at last Wednesday’s Section 1AA Championships at Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna.

Cross country: Girls sixth, boys seventh at Missota meet A sixth-place finish in the team standings wasn’t quite what Farmington head coach Heidi Revels was hoping for at last Tuesday’s Missota Conference Championships in New Prague. Revels was very excited, however, about her three runners who earned all-conference honors with top-20 finishes. Freshman Sofia Chadwick led the way with an 11th-place time of 15:41 on the 4,000-meter course to earn a spot on the first team.

Cross country: FHS grad Lippold returns to coach cross country

The new Farmington boys cross country coach won’t be new at all to the distance runners who have competed for the track team over the last few years. Lisa Lippold, an assistant distance coach for the boys and girls track teams for the last three seasons, was recently announced as the successor to Keith Revels, who guided the Tiger cross country teams for five seasons.

Tigers prepare for conference meet with Shakopee Invite

Both the Farmington boys and girls cross country teams saw some good things while finishing in the middle of the pack at last Tuesday’s Shakopee Invitational. The boys finished sixth out of 11 teams, but tightened the time between their top five runners down to 1 minute, 18 seconds. The fourth-place girls received a season-best time from Bailey Opsal and played three runners in the top 17.

Cross Country: Tiger teams second at New Prague

Farmington senior Elliot Fenske cut 23 seconds off last year's time and defended his meet title at Tuesday's New Prague Invitational. Fenske, who ran a 17:10 on the course last fall, outclassed the field with a 5,000-meter time of 16:47. His high finish helped the Tigers to a second-place team score of 63 points in the nine-team meet.

The orange and black of Farmington High School was lost in the crowd at Friday’s Applejack Invitational. Competing alongside some of the best individuals and teams from around the metro, the Tiger boys finished 17th out of 22 teams on the soggy course at Aronson Park.
