CAPITOL CHATTER Farmington's Venz capped off season with a state championship Saturday
Taylor Venz has been dreaming about winning a state championship for the last three years.
At least, he’s been trying to. That’s why he wrote “state champion” on his pillow case with a Sharpie. He wanted that goal to be the last thing he saw every night before he went to bed.

Four Farmington wrestlers Xcel-bound
The Farmington wrestling team’s lone state qualifier a year ago, Taylor Venz will be joined by three fellow Tigers who advanced through Saturday’s Section 2AAA finals in Shakopee. Freshman Jamin LeDuc, sophomore Kyle Benjamin and junior Joe Hoeve all placed second at the section meet and will compete in their first career state meets when matches begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. Paul.

Wrestling: Tigers pinned by North
Lakeville North pinned its way past Farmington in the second round of the Section 2AAA team tournament last Thursday night at Lakeville North.
The third-seeded Panthers won eight of 14 matches and seven came via fall in a 46-25 win over the sixth-seeded Tigers.

The Farmington wrestling team competed in back-to-back triangulars last week and both played out in similar fashion.
On Thursday night, the Tigers opened their home meet with a 32-25 victory over Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf/Pemberton.

Wrestling: Tigers tripped up in triangular
Two more closely-contested duals slipped out of Farmington’s grasp in last Thursday’s home triangular at the FHS auxiliary gym.
The Tigers lost to ninth-ranked (Class 2A) Monticello 36-33 on a pin in the heavyweight match, and then suffered two falls and an overtime decision in the three final three matches of a 42-31 setback against Eastview.
