Your weekend: World War II weekend at the fairgrounds


Wild Turkey Federation dinner

The Vermillion Longbeards chapter of the National Wild turkey Federation will hold its annual banquet May 15 at Celts Pub in Farmington. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner starts at 7. There will be a live auction, silent auction, games, prize packages, guns and raffles to support conservation and preserve wild turkey and its habitat.

Spring luncheon and program

Biblical storyteller Pati Kachel will be the featured speaker at Faith United Methodist Church’s Women of Faith spring luncheon and program. The luncheon will take place at noon May 17 at the church. Reservations are required. For more information call 651-463-8735 or 651-460-6110.


Steak fry

The Rotary Club of Farmington will hold a steak fry fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. May 17 at the Farmington VFW. Money raised at the event will support scholarships, a high school mentoring program and other Rotary projects. Tickets are available at the door or in advance from Rotary members. The VFW is located at 421 Third St.


Christian Life School play

World War II Weekend

The fifth annual Armed Forces Day World War II Weekend will take place May 17 and 18 at the Dakota County Fairgrounds. Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Activities will include Normandy-themed battles, soldier camps, a swap meet and presentations from authors. Library events

Storytime for all ages

There will be a storytime for all ages from 10:30 to 11 a.m. May 16 at the temporary library location on the second floor of city hall, 430 Third St. Storytime includes stories and activities ideal for mixed-age groups.

Men’s Book Group

The Farmington Men’s Book Group will meet at 7 p.m. May 20 at Dunn Brothers, 20700 Chippendale Ave. W. The group will discuss “I’m a Stranger Here Myself” by Bill Bryson.

Memorial Day ceremony

Castle Rock Valley Cemetery will hold a memorial program at 2 p.m. May 25. Vicky Kline will speak and members of Farmington veterans’ groups will present the military salute. The cemetery is located six miles southeast of Farmington at 25521 Alverno Ave.

Blue Thumb workshop
