Park cleanup, Earth Day event draw crowds
The event would have gone on rain or shine, but the people who turned out Saturday morning to help clean up Farmington's parks and ponds were probably glad to see clear skies and sunshine when they woke up.

More than 480 Farmington residents volunteered for the annual event, in its seventh year. Several more turned out at an Earth and Arbor Day celebration held Saturday afternoon at Schmitz-Maki Arena. The event was moved indoors because of forecasts that called for rain and snow Saturday.

The Earth and Arbor Day celebration also included the release of about 200 rainbow trout into the Vermillion River by the Southern Dakota County Sportsmen's Club.
