Three taken to hospital following crash on Pilot Knob Road

One woman was airlifted and two others transported ambulance following a two-vehicle accident on Pilot Knob Road shortly after noon on Thursday.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Pilot Knob Road and Elk River Trail. According to Farmington police chief Brian Lindquist, preliminary investigation indicates a tan Buick Century, driven by an adult woman whose name was not released, was southbound on Pilot Knob Road.

The woman and her mother, the passenger, were making a left-hand turn onto Elk River Trail near the SuperAmerica gas station. Lindquist suspects the driver's vision was impaired and she did not see a northbound blue pickup truck. The driver, a Farmington High School student identified by bystanders as Jimmy O'Meara, was unable to stop before striking the passenger side of the Buick.

O'Meara's truck skidded over the curb and collided with the SuperAmerica sign at the corner. His passenger, identified by bystanders as student Courtney Shaw, was injured in the crash.

Police have not confirmed the identity of anyone involved in the accident.

Emergency personnel received the accident report at 12:12 p.m. Farmington Fire and Rescue and ALF Ambulance responded to the accident. Northfield Ambulance also responded. The two women in the Buick were extricated, the older woman taken by air to a hospital. The driver and Shaw were both transported by ambulance to hospitals. O'Meara was examined by paramedics at the scene. The conditions of the three victims have not been released at this time.

Farmington High School had early release Thursday due to conferences. Within minutes of the accident, Elk River Trail, English Avenue, and the SuperAmerica and Farmington Marketplace parking lots were clogged with vehicles and teenagers who had gathered to witness the scene.

The accident is under investigation. The Minnesota State Patrol will reconstruct the scene and write a formal report. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
