Lois E. Linder, 83

Lois Elaine Quinnell Linder passed peacefully Feb. 3, 2009 at 83.

Lois will be dearly missed by her three children, Flavis, Cheryl and Steven, his wife Sue; granddaughters, Kari and Stephanie; grandsons, Scott, Ryan and Johnathan and her loving sister, Marlys Fossum.

Lois began life on June 26, 1925 in the birthing room of her family farm just miles outside Northfield. Lois and her seven brothers and two sisters worked the farm while attending a one-room schoolhouse.

Lois married Forrest "Bud" Linder on Dec. 7, the day of Pearl Harbor. Ordered to active duty, they served in San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento, during this time she had two of her children. After the war they settled in Bloomington, having her third child and starting Linder Construction Co.

Divorced in 1958 and being the sole support of three children, she was forced to find a new profession; her previous banking connections didn't believe a woman could be a contractor. Risking everything, she opened an employment agency at 512 Nicollet Mall, her business thrived for 25 years.

Retiring from business in 1983, she continued her other passions: reading, gourmet cooking, golf and boating. At 78 she suffered a stroke and returned to her beloved Northfield, living at Three Links Care Center.

Lois was a joy, an inspiration, her humor notorious, a kind friend and mother, always ready to help and teach.

There will be a remembrance at her gravesite where she will join her family at Highview Christiania on Saturday, March 21 at noon, followed by a gathering to celebrate of her life from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Archer Hotel in Northfield, Lower Level.
