District seeks input on proposed budget cuts tonight

Independent School District 192 will hold a public input session at 5:45 p.m. April 26 to hear what residents think of proposed budget adjustments.

Finance director Jeff Priess announced the more than $300,000 in cuts and $87,000 March 22 in response to an estimated $119,000 budget shortfall for the coming year. Cuts include the elimination of a districtwide telephone specialist position and a special education coordinator. They also include five elementary teaching positions and 3.6 secondary teaching positions, though Priess said those cuts are the result of enrollment not growing as fast as anticipated.

Priess said the Monday night meeting is a chance for residents to raise any objections or make suggestions for other cuts.

"We laid out the projections at the end of March and we've been out to all the buildings and we haven't gotten much feedback," Priess said. "We just want to know if there are any concerns out there."

The meeting will take place in the little theater at Boeckman Middle School. The regular school board meeting will follow at 6:30. The school is located at 800 Denmark Ave.
