Farmington firefighters burn house, garage in practrice drill

Farmington firefighters got in a little practice with a controlled burn June 9.

The Murphy property south of Co. Rd. 50 is now minus an old farmhouse and garage, thanks to a June 9 controlled burn conducted by the Farmington Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived around 8 a.m. Saturday and started doing practice drills on the home. They only got a few in, though, before the roof of the old house went up in flames. Apparently, the attic was filled with straw that had been used for insulation, and once that straw caught, firefighters were done with their practice drills.

The garage, however, caught fire in the early afternoon. They stayed at the property throughout the afternoon so they could keep an eye on the buildings as they burned.
