One hurt in Highway 3 crash
One person received injuries in a three-car accident that closed a section of Highway 3 in Empire township Monday.
The accident occurred around 5:25 p.m., when a southbound tan Chevrolet HHR was struck from behind by a white Camry LE. According to Minnesota State Patrol trooper Bridget Heaton, the Chevrolet was driven by a woman who was stopped, waiting to turn left onto 197th Street West in Empire Township. The Camry was also southbound on Highway 3. The driver did not see the woman's vehicle had come to a complete stop and was not able to stop his vehicle in time. He struck the Chevrolet, pushing it into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a third vehicle.
Farmington fire/rescue and Allina ALF Ambulance responded to the scene. Farmington police also responded as mutual aid, closing off the highway while the accident was cleared. The Camry and Chevrolet were both towed from the scene. Highway 3 was closed for approximately half an hour, opening again after 6 p.m.
The woman who was driving the Chevrolet was transported to an area hospital, though Heaton could not say which one. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured in the crash. Only one person was in each vehicle.
At the scene, Heaton would not release the identities of the three individuals involved in the crash.
