A 16-year-old Farmington boy received minor injuries when his Chevy Blazer was broadsided by a Jeep Patriot driven by a 43-year-old woman Thursday afternoon, April 4.

According to State Patrol officer Mike Gensmer, Bruce Witschorik was taken by ambulance to Northfield Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The woman driving the Jeep, Karen M. Jirovec of Marshall, was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center with severe head injuries.

The accident was reported at 3:18 p.m. Witschorik was northbound on Highway 3, Gensmer said, and Jirovec was westbound on County Road 86/280th Street West. Jirovec had a stop sign, but witnesses told Gensmer the woman did not stop. She struck the passenger side of Witschorik's vehicle.

Gensmer estimated Jirovec's speed at 55 miles per hour at the time of the impact.

The Minnesota State Patrol was on the scene of the crash, at the corner of County Road 86 and Highway 3 in Castle Rock, for more than three hours. Because Jirovec's injuries are severe, the Minnesota State Patrol's accident reconstruction team was called to the scene. Highway 3 was closed at the intersection for the duration of the reconstruction.
