Farmington firefighters worked through the night March 29 to put out a fire in a garage at the corner of Fifth and Oak streets in downtown Farmington.

The garage and two vehicles parked inside were destroyed, fire chief Jim Larsen said, but firefighters were able to protect three nearby houses from the flames. One of the houses received some heat damage but none caught fire.

Firefighters received the call at 11:38 p.m. March 29. Larsen said there were flames coming through the garage roof when the first fire department’s unit arrived.

“The fact that we got there so quickly and all of the that training we’ve been doing over the past year really paid off,” Larsen said.

Firefighters worked in the rain to battle the flames. Investigators were on the scene until 4:45 a.m. working.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
