Crystal man charged with breaking in, shouting at Hampton couple
A Hampton man and his girlfriend were having a relaxing night watching TV when someone broke down the door of their apartment, yelling and swearing, and then starting breaking chairs and pushing the man.
The 23-year-old Crystal man has been charged with two counts of burglary for breaking into an occupied apartment and assaulting the man inside.
According to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, Dakota County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a burglary in Hampton on Aug. 16. When they arrived, the officers spoke with a man and his girlfriend, who were in the apartment watching TV at the time of the burglary.
According to the complaint, the man said Michael Bill Shain, whom he played basketball with, charged into the apartment yelling and swearing at him. He told Shain to leave and he did. The man locked the door and went back to watching TV. About 10 minutes later, Shain broke down the locked door, knocked over and broke chairs, knocked everything off the table, yelled, swore and pushed the man before leaving again.
The man said that he did not have any issues with Shain prior to that night. Officers went to Shain’s apartment and arrested him.
If convicted of two counts of first degree burglary, Shain could face up to 20 years in prison and up to $35,000 in fines for each charge.
