Education foundation seeks new members

The Farmington Area Education Foundation is looking forward to 2014 and they are looking for community members who want to get involved to help build an even brighter future for youth.

Planning for the year ahead began taking shape with an informational meeting held Wednesday Nov. 13, where foundation board member Cheryl Retterath provided an overview of the current structure and financial position of the organization and set the table for increased membership and community participation.

The next meeting of the foundation is set for Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the community education meeting room located at Meadowview Elementary School. The purpose of the meeting will be to accept nominations for board membership, fill committee chair positions and share ideas on how to continue the decade of excellence the foundation has provided to strengthen the schools, teachers, students and the entire Farmington community. The meeting is open to the public and interested community and business members are invited to attend.

The foundation continues to accept contributions, fund grants and provide the funding for the annual Robert Watson scholarship. Plans for the current school year include $5000 in grant funds for education programs and an additional $1000 via the Robert Watson scholarship to a high school senior.
