School board agenda includes budget projections, construction plans

The Farmington School Board will welcome some fresh faces tonight with the swearing in of new members Tera Lee, Brian Treakle and Melissa Sauser.

The new members will get right to work with a meeting that includes budget projections, an update on the district's strategic plan and the presentation of superintendent Brad Meeks' annual performance evaluation.

Tonight's agenda also includes a presentation on a four-year plan for facility improvement projects. The board has talked for several weeks about improvements identified in a recently completed facilities plan. The proposal on tonight's agenda includes several improvements for 2011. They are: parking and circulation improvements and the addition of an outdoor kindergarten play area at Akin Road Elementary; cafeteria and kitchen renovations and an office expansion at Farmington Elementary; security remodeling and a conference room reconfiguration at North Trail Elementary; an accessibility ramp for the music suite at Boeckman Middle School; security remodeling, pool entry changes and family locker rooms at Dodge Middle School; and technology improvements districtwide. This year's projects are expected to cost about $4 million.

The total plan would cost the district an estimated $18.5 million over four years. That money would likely come from funds set aside for a sixth elementary school that is now not needed.

Tonight's meeting will start with organization items necessary at the start of every year. The board will elect a chairperson, vice chair, clerk and treasurer and assign board members to committees.

The District 192 School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Boeckman Middle School, 800 Denmark Ave.
