City of Farmington identifies top-paid employees

Just how much of the city's budget is wrapped up in salaries? We don't

have the entire list, but the city released a list of its top salaries in late January.

Minnesota state statute requires cities with a population of 15,000 or more to post the three highest base salaries and positions in the community on the primary home page of the community's website. Farmington complied by posting salaries Jan. 30, 2012.

City administrator David McKnight leads the city of Farmington's salary list with a base salary of $113,000. Human resource director Brenda Wendlandt follows with $106,661, and police chief Brian Lindquist earns $102,743.

The city of Farmington has four more department directors. City engineer Kevin Schorzman earns $102,731 annually. Randy Distad, parks and recreation director, has a base salary of $102,304. Finance director Teresa Walters and public works director Todd Reiten both have a base salary of $93,684.

The city's website only lists the salaries of McKnight, Wendlandt and Lindquist, but McKnight provided information regarding the rest of the department directors. Anyone who is interested in more information on city staff salaries can call McKnight, 651-280-6801.

The salaries listed are set through the end of the year, he said. The salaries posted do not include benefits.
