Close races in township elections

There were some close races in Tuesday's township elections, including a couple in which there was only one candidate.

In Eureka Township, incumbent Nancy Sauber lost her Supervisor 3 position by two votes to Mark Ceminski, 161-159.

Gloria Belzer was the only candidate on the ballot for Eureka's Supervisor 4 position, but she lost to write-in candidate Steve Madden, who received 158 votes. Belzer received 149 votes.

There was no incumbent in the Supervisor 4 race.

There was no incumbent in the night's best-populated race, either. There were 216 votes cast in the race for the Castle Rock Township Supervisor E position, and the final difference was just seven votes. Sandra Weber received 101 votes to Monique Berg's 94. The third candidate, Michael Kiefer, received 21 votes.

In the township's other supervisor race, incumbent Drea Doffing, running unopposed, received 113 votes. There were 75 write-in votes.

Current Castle Rock Township clerk Jane Bistodeau received 177 votes. There were five write-ins. Township residents also voted 124-80 to keep electing the township's clerk. A question on the ballot would given the township's board power to appoint a clerk.

Things were quietest Tuesday in Empire Township, where only 19 votes were cast. Ed Gerten received all 19 to hold on to his supervisor position.
