Fogarty, Slavik win in county board primary

Farmington City Council member Christy Jo Forgarty will advance to the general election in the race to become Dakota County Commissioner for District 1.

Fogarty finished second in Tuesday's primary election with 25.1 percent of the vote. She will face off in November against Hastings resident Mike Slavik, who received 41.75 percent of the vote.

Mark Henry, a 1978 graduate of Farmington High School who is currently self employed doing road maintenance for Castle Rock and other area townships, finished third with 21.8 percent of the vote.

Brian Budensky finished fourth in the primary with 7.89 percent of the vote.

Fogarty has served on the Farmington City Council for the past 10 years. She has also served on the Board of Water and Soil Resources and on the Commission for Judicial Review in District 1.

Slavik is a realtor and part owner of Hometown Laundry. He serves on the Hastings YMCA Board and the Hastings High School Alumni Committee.

There is no incumbent in the District 1 race. Longtime county commissioner Joe Harris chose not to seek another term.
