Campaigning under way for Farmington school board

All three of the Farmington School Board members whose terms expire at the end of the year have announced plans to seek a return to the board.

Board chair Tera Lee and board members Melissa Sauser and Brian Treakle all announced their reelection plans Monday. All three have all served on the board since 2011.

“Four years ago I campaigned on smaller class sizes and keeping as much funding as possible in the classroom where it matters most, and I feel like the board has accomplished that goal,” Lee said in announcing her run for reelection.

Sauser said she would like to see the district continue to improve communication with residents as it works to customize education for individual students.

“Farmington is leading the way in showing that public education can transform from the factory school model into a model that meets the needs of students, families and communities for the 21st century,” she said.

Treakle said he has worked in his first term to improve spending efficiency and student performance in the classroom.

“Farmington was once slowly making progress,” Treakle said. “It has accelerated ahead of the state averages. Leadership from around the state and country see the amazing changes that we are making here to improve education.”
