FHS nearing decision on new activities director
Farmington High School will have a new activities director soon, but principal Ben Kusch is not sure the new AD will be in place by the beginning of the school year.
The activities director position became available in mid-July when Jon Summer took a similar position in the Chaska school district. Summer had been Farmington's activities director for eight years.
FHS received more than 65 applications, Kusch said Tuesday. The pool of candidates was narrowed first by sorting through applications, then by a round of telephone interviews. A smaller group of successful candidates was brought back for interviews by a committee.
As of Tuesday, District 192 was in the third round of interviews, Kusch said. From that third round, two or three top candidates will be forwarded to Kusch and superintendent Jay Haugen for final consideration.
Kusch hopes to select a new activities director sometime next week.
The FHS fall sports season officially started Monday, Kusch added. In the interim, FHS assistant principal Jason Berg has been acting as AD, but Berg will have his own duties to perform once the school year gets under way.
"The timing is certainly challenging," Kusch said. "Many of our candidates have jobs, and we need to be respectful of the transitions he or she will need to make."
