Tiger swimmers end regular season with Eagan

The Farmington Tigers boys' swimming and diving team gave a very good Eagan team everything they could handle in their regular season finale.

"We had a fun meet versus Eagan," head coach Ryan Hamen said. "They are ranked a very close second in our conference. It was our senior night, Jacob Buysee, Ben Walz and Tanner Hubbard all had fun with their teammates in their final home dual meet."

In the 200 medley relay, the team of Seth Krause, Ben Moorlach, Ben Walz and Eric Heddinger took second with a time of one minute and 43.77 seconds. Just behind them was Matt Gunderson, Tanner Hubbard, Riley Kennedy and Brett Haugen in third with a time of 1:47.90. Heddinger took second in the 200 freestyle (1:51.42) while Tanner Hubbard was third in 1:57.09.

Gunderson took third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.98, Brett Haugen was third in the 50 freestyle (24.05), while Walz was fourth (24.44) and Seth Miller fifth in 24.45. Krause won the one-meter dive with a score of 230.14 and was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.55.

Moorlach won the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.83 while Ethan Hanes was fourth in 53.23. Heddinger took second in the 500 freestyle in 5:01.89, and Hanes, Haugen, Walz and Miller took second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.08.

Gunderson placed second in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.53 and teammate Tanner Hubbard was just two-hundredths of a second behind him in third. Eagan had their swimmers swim exhibition in the last two events (100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay) and beat Farmington 92-88.

According to Hamen, one note of interest from the meet is that Max Stigman of Eagan set a new pool record for the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.03, breaking the previous record of 59.23.

The Tigers will compete at the Section 1AA meet in Rochester, Feb. 21-23 (diving Feb. 22) to qualify for state.
