Student column: A lot to like about autumn

It is now October and it’s finally starting to feel like the beginning of fall. Students are getting used to the new school year and things are finally getting back into a regular routine.

Fall is one of the most enjoyed seasons for a variety of reasons. Some people claim they like fall because of the weather. The temperature isn’t too hot and it isn’t too cold. It’s just right. Even if the temperature outside is on the warmer end, a nice cool breeze counterbalances it.

There is an essence to the weather outside during fall that’s just comforting. The leaves are beginning to change color and fall from the trees, and the robins sing their beautiful songs in the early morning hours.

Glancing outside my window in the morning at the willow tree overlooking the pond during fall is like a scene I would see in a movie. Many girls change up their wardrobe at the beginning of fall. In come the Ugg boots, scarves and sweaters. Out go the shorts, tank tops and flip flops. A change of season is a perfect excuse to change up your fashion.

One of the big things of fall is a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. Every fall, it blows up on every social media network, including Instagram and Twitter. People can’t wait to get their hands on one of these delicious lattes

One of those people was Alyssa O’Neill. As I learned from, even something as small as a pumpkin spice latte can make a difference. Alyssa really wanted to try her first pumpkin spice latte. Her parents agreed to take her the next morning, but they never got the chance.

Unfortunately, Alyssa passed away that morning due to an epileptic seizure. Although her parents couldn’t fulfill their promise to their daughter, they decided to help out other people in a way their daughter would like. They paid for 40 pumpkin spice lattes for the next 40 customers who came in to try one. This story went viral, and now people all around are doing good deeds in honor of Alyssa.

A holiday that includes dressing up in a costume, going trick-or-treating, or handing out candy to trick-or-treaters also has people excited during the fall. Halloween is a favorite holiday for many people. At least it’s a very popular choice to my friends.

People enjoy this crazy holiday because they get to dress up for a night as anything they want to be. You can make your own costume or buy it from a store.

Sometimes I miss the days in elementary school when we got to wear our costumes to school on Halloween. Not to mention all the candy that teenagers can get. Some even come home with pillow cases full of candy. Talk about a sugar rush.

Fall is a favorable season due to the lovely weather, and all the little things which make it special.
