Student column: Plenty of options for a fun summer

Summer. Three month of glorious freedom stretched out before you. You don’t have to think about school or homework.

Not having to wake up at 6 a.m. seems like heaven to most students. You can do what you want with your time. And there are many things to do.

One popular option is, of course, going to a beach. Hanging out in the sun and sand can make any day better. Going boating or hanging out on a lake is another fun way to pass the time.

On the lake, you have many options. You can choose to go kayaking or canoeing. Plus, you wouldn’t have to worry about falling in because with the bright and hot summer sun, the cool water would feel nice. Additionally, paddle boats or paddle boards can be fun. A fun experience would be cruising around the lake in a paddle boat while the sun is setting. I can only imagine how beautiful it would be.

Paddle boards are becoming more and more popular. While standing on a thick, sturdy board, you use a paddle to push yourself around the water. Not only is it fun, but it can double as a good workout, for you have to maintain your balance and work your arms to move yourself around. Jet skiing is such a thrill. My favorite time to go out on the jet ski is when there are few boats out and there are many waves. You have the chance to go as fast as you can and to catch some air.

Along with jet skiing you can go tubing. One of my favorite things to do while out on the lake is to attach our tube to the jet ski and speed around the lake and see how long it takes until someone falls off.

If you like lying out in the sun, hanging out on the boat and occasionally taking a dip in the water can be refreshing.

Another exciting activity in the summer is to go fishing. Having competitions with your friends to see who can catch the longest fish always makes for a great time.

Also in the summer, vacations are popular and can make for a great summer memory. My summer vacation is the thing I am looking forward to the most for my summer.

On a different note, some families choose to take advantage of their kids’ free time and go camping. Cooking food around a fire, roasting marshmallows and going on hikes are just some of the memorable things camping provides.

For many students, summer also means bonfires. They are a great way to stay in touch with your friends. You can sit and chat around the fire, jump on a trampoline, play night games and much more.

Summer is a time for students to relax, have fun, and take a break from the hard work they put into their schoolwork.
