Letter: Dew Days was not accessible

To the editor,

I was excited to be able to go to Dew Days this year, coming from the Vermillion River Crossing Apartments with my electric wheelchair to Dew Days. I never thought that Dew Days would be so inaccessible to handicapped people.

I was unable to go down the sidewalks because of the tents blocking the way and the corners where the handicapped areas are located unto the street were blocked by tents too. I had to go to the senior center and come back down Oak Street to get to Dew Days. When I tried to leave and go across the railroad tracks by the post office the street was blocked completely and the sidewalks were too.

Could the chairperson in charge of next year’s Dew Days consider having signs to give directions on where to go if you are handicapped or to make it more accessible to be able to cross the railroad tracks by the post office? I would have enjoyed the event more if it had been more accessible to me.

There are other senior citizens who are unable to walk much that were also unable to go to the event because of no handicapped parking that is close for them to use. Please consider this for next years event. Thanks!
