Letter to the editor: Don't forget about the Farmington High School 1936 football team

To the editor:

I certainly do not want to take anything away from the great season that the Farmington High School girl's softball softball team had — culminating with a "modern era" team state championship — but maybe there is a bit too much hoopla though over the "fact" it was the school's first team sport state championship.

Back, way back, before playoffs determined such things, team champions were determined by somebody's opinion. The Farmington High School 1936 football team was declared, by Twin Cities press, the No. 1 team in the state after an undefeated and unscored upon (199-0) season. No opponent got inside the 20-yard line. The team can surely claim to be the school's first team sport state champion.
