Dew Run: Sathre, Tavakley win four-mile runs

Nearly 500 runners from eight states competed in the 30th-annual Dew Run Saturday morning in Farmington.

The big winner was St. Thomas freshman Ben Sathre of Chaska, who topped a field of 312 runners in the four-mile run with a time of 21 minutes, 11 seconds. He edged runner-up Mike Connell of St. Paul by 17 seconds. Third place went to Nicholas Michalak of Omaha.

The top Farmington finisher was recently-graduated Tiger cross country and track and field standout Ryan Monroe, who crossed the line ninth in a time of 25 minutes. Current FHS athletes Chad Retterath and Carl Elmer finished 14th and 17th, respectively, and 39-year-old Mike Ladnrop of Farmington was second in his age bracket and 15th overall.

The top female finisher in the four-mile run was 34-year-old Kate Tavakley of Burnsville, who turned in a time of 26:43. Runner-up Wendy Peterson of Eagan was second out of 164 runners in the women's division and 29th overall in 28:10.

Farmington's top female runner was recent FHS graduate Kaitlin Mincke, who was a state-placewinner in both the open 800 and 4x800 relay at the Class AA State Meet three weeks ago at Hamline University. She averaged 7:23 per mile in turning in a 44th-place time of 29:31. She was second in her age division and seventh overall in the women's race.

In the one-mile race, top honors went to Daniel Grannes of Apple Valley. Grannes was the only runner out of 174 to break five minutes, crossing the finish line in 4:55. Kendall Ricklefi of Burnsville was second in 5:04 and Jason Schultz of Lakeville was third in a time of 5:08.

Retterath topped his four-mile finish with a fifth-place time of 5:13 that made him Farmington's top finisher in the one-mile event. Elmer and Alec Wilson also doubled up and came in 17th and 18th, respectively.

The top female miler was Emily Allen of Bloomington, who earned 33rd overall in 6:34. Kailey Burckhard of Rosemount was second in 6:41 and Liz Wold of Morris earned third place in 7:04.

Elizabeth Carey was Farmington's top female finisher and the top runner in the 30-39 age bracket, reaching the finish in 7:09.

The states represented in the Dew Run were Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Carolina and North Dakota.
