Boys lacrosse: Collier, Howard notch 3-goal games during 0-3 start

The Farmington boys lacrosse team is 0-3 to start the season.

Farmington's boys lacrosse team stumbled out of the blocks in its first week of varsity action.

The Tigers made their debut last Tuesday with a 13-5 loss at Lakeville South. They played East Ridge/Park tough in last Thursday's home opener before falling 9-4, then saw their record drop to 0-3 with a 13-6 loss Monday night at Owatonna.

Three of Farmington's six goals against Owatonna came from Mitch Collier. Quinn Malcolm and Jake Bauman also found the back of the net and Justin Rees had two assists.

Owatonna scored five goals in the first period and upped its lead to 8-4 by halftime. The Huskies scored on six of 10 power play opportunities, making life tough for goaltenders Matt Henzerling-Wiese (five goals allowed, 19 saves) and Charlie Weierke (eight goals allowed, 12 saves).

The Tigers trailed just 4-3 at halftime of last week's home opener, but East Ridge/Park scored five goals in the second half to secure a 9-4 road win.

Trevor Howard scored three goals for the Tigers and Nick Midboe added a goal.

Weierke took the loss, allowing six goals while saving 14 shots over 36 minutes.

A scoreless first half proved too big an obstacle to overcome in last Tuesday's season-opening loss to Lakeville South.

The Cougars led 4-0 at the break and matched the Tigers goal-for-goal in the third period to stay in front 8-4 heading into the fourth.

Howard and Malcolm each scored two goals in the second half and Midboe added a single goal.

Weierke played 38 minutes in goal and stopped 23 of 34 shots.
