Girls track: Tigers fifth at True Team section meet

Farmington didn't have the depth to hang with the likes of Lakeville North, Lakeville South and Rochester Mayo in the girls portion of last Tuesday's Section 1AA True Team Meet in Rochester.

The Tigers continued to get strong performances in standout events like the 300 hurdles and the 4x200 and 4x400 relays -- all of which finished first -- but it was the teams that could place three competitors in the top 10 of the individual events that rose to the top in a meet where the top 27 finishers were awarded points. Lakeville South outscored Rochester Mayo, 927.5-895, for the team title, while the Tigers settled for fifth in the nine-team field with 635 points. Conference rival Northfield claimed fourth with 660 points.

"We finished fifth and I was hoping for fourth, but the kids went out and competed their hardest and that's all I can ever ask of them," Farmington coach Tom Hart said.

After Parco's victory in the 300 hurdles and the first-place finishes by the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, Farmington's next-best finishes were third-place showings that came in the 4x100; the triple jump, where freshman Nadia Lorencz reached 32 feet, 11.75 inches; and the 800, where Nicole Clifton was nipped at the finish line after running a 2:24.78.

Erin Hickey scored points in three individual events, placing fourth in the long jump, ninth in the triple jump and eighth in the 100.

Amy Kiminski took a break from the team's relays to place fifth in the 200 and Maria Kiminski crossed the finish line seventh in the 400.

Other top-10 finishes came from Maricia Pacheco in the 3,200 (eighth) and 1,600 (10th), Lorencz in the high jump (ninth), Parco in the long jump (ninth), Haley Luhman in the pole vault (eighth), Katie Habeck in the shot put (eighth) and Danielle Froehling in the discus (ninth).

The Tigers compete again tonight when they travel south for the Northfield Invite at Carleton College.

Championship season gets under way next Tuesday with the Missota Conference Championships at Prior Lake. The event will be held at Tiger Stadium beginning in 2011 as Prior Lake will no longer be a member of the league.
