Early bird basketball registration runs through Saturday

All girls and boys entering grades 3-8 for the 2010-2011 school year are eligible to participate in Farmington Travel Basketball. Registrations received through July 31 are eligible for the $50 early bird discount. The early bird registration fee is $225 for girls and boys in grade 5-8. Parents may register online at or pick up a registration form from the Farmington Public Library. Registrations must be received prior to mid-September tryout dates.

The traveling basketball program has chosen to open up tryouts for children entering third grade this year. The Farmington Travel Basketball Association hopes to increase the number of teams registered and drum up excitement for the game in the younger grades.

The third- and fourth grade teams will play in MYAS league play or seven scheduled tournaments this season including the MYAS State Championship Tournament. The third- and fourth grade cost is $150 plus the cost of their uniforms which will equate to approximately $45 per year. The fifth through eighth grade teams play 9-11 tournaments over the course of the season throughout the metro area. Season play starts in November and continues through mid-March. Most tournaments are Saturday through Sunday or one-day tournaments.

Tryouts are held in September. Players are scored based on drills and scrimmages. Players are then selected based on rating results and position considerations. Teams are formed with generally 8-10 players. Our goal is to have enough players for two teams per grade level.

Practices begin shortly after tryouts and are generally held two times per week for anywhere from 1-2 hours per practice at various schools throughout the district.

The goal of the traveling basketball program is to further develop each individual player's skills through quality instruction, an enhanced level of competition, and the benefit of increased practice/playing time with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork. These goals are accomplished by providing an adequate amount of practice time, participation in competitive basketball tournaments, discipline, commitment and effort from participants, coaches and parents.
