Volleyball limps into post-season

A year ago at this time, Farmington was hitting its stride just in time for the start of a long run through the Section 1AAA volleyball tournament.

The Tigers ended up winning six games in a row en route to their first-ever state tournament appearance. This year's much less experienced squad showed flashes of competitive play during the season, but heads into next week's section tournament having lost five in a row while falling to a record of 8-18.

The Tigers lost their final home game of the season in three games, 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 last Tuesday against Chaska, then dropped a four-gamer 25-22, 25-20, 13-25, 25-18, Monday night at New Prague.

Senior Katie Habeck continued to put up big numbers in the home finale against Chaska, slamming 12 kills and recording 15 digs. Bekah Lippert and Jordan Bridges each added six kills and Lippert added five blocks.

Brook King paced the defense with 28 serve receptions and a team-leading 17 digs.

Mia Johnston had 12 set assists and Andrea Smith added 10.
