Volleyball: Tiger volleyball wins four-setter at Albert Lea

Farmington withstood a late Albert Lea charge to open the season with a four-game victory Thursday night in Albert Lea.

The Tigers rolled in the first two games, winning 25-13 and 25-16, before the host Tigers claimed a tight third game, 25-23. The visitors claimed the match by holding on for a 25-23 decision of their own in Game 4.

Bekah Lippert led the Farmington front row in the program's first game since 2006 without standout Katie Habeck, slamming 12 kills in 21 attempts and recording five blocks. Laura Steege added nine kills, three blocks and 19 digs.

Andrea Smith and Mia Johnston shared the setting duties, with Smith putting up 18 set assists and Johnston adding 14.

Rachel Eckert led the Tiger defense with 21 digs. Emmy Fahning added 17, Adrienne Jolicoeur had 15 and Smith supplied 10. Eckert and Jolicoeur each successfully received 20 serves.

The Tigers made their home debut Tuesday night against Austin at Tiger Gym. The team travels to Rosemount tonight for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
