Volleyball: Sweeps drop Tigers below the .500 mark

A pair of 3-0 losses slipped the Farmington volleyball team back below the .500 mark last week.

The Tigers suffered a 25-13, 26-24, 25-15 setback last Tuesday at Rochester Mayo, and then returned home Thursday and were dealt a 25-17, 25-16, 25-15 loss by 10th-ranked (Class 3A) Chaska in front a big Homecoming crowd at Tiger Gym.

Emma Fahning led the Tigers with nine kills and 11 digs. Emily Nelson added seven kills and Mia Johnston provided 11 set assists. Kaylene Seurer led the team with four blocks.

Rachel Eckert led the team with 15 serve receptions, followed by Fahning with 14, Diana Comes with 12 and Makenzie Hesse with 11.

The Tigers overcame a slow start last Tuesday in Rochester to take a 24-22 lead in Game 2. The Spartans countered with a game-ending 4-0 run that put them up two games to none.

Courtney Johnston led the team with eight kills. Emma Fahning had 10 digs, Johnston provided nine assists and Seurer registered five blocks.

Eckert led the defense with 22 serve receptions.

The Tigers (9-10) are back in action tonight when they travel to Chanhassen to take on the eighth-ranked (Class 3A) Storm. The team competes again this weekend at the Cannon Falls tournament.
