Swimming and diving: Lakers swim by Tigers

Prior Lake won the first three events and pulled away for a 100-86 dual win over Farmington Dec. 18 at Dodge Middle School.

The Tigers cut into Prior Lake's lead with a first-place finish by the foursome of Dahlton Bell, Dan Berg, Eric Schimmel and Christopher Kirchmann in the 200 freestyle relay, but the Lakers closed out the meet by winning the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.

"We had a lot of times close to our best times, but lost a lot of close races at the finish," Farmington coach Ryan Hamen said.

After runner-up finishes by the 200 medley relay and Aaron Cochnauer in the 200 freestyle, Kirchmann got the Tigers in the win column with a first-place showing in the 50 freestyle. Evan Carufel and Jon Bovee followed with a 1-2 finish in the 1-meter dive and Cochnauer came back to claim the 100 butterfly.

Prior Lake answered by winning the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Kirchmann and Austin Kueck earned runner-up honors for the Tigers in those events. Second-place finishes were also supplied by Nick Stephan in the 100 breaststroke and the foursome of Berg, Schimmel, Bell and Kirchmann in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Tigers return from their holiday break tonight with another home meet against South at Dodge Middle School.
