Boys lacrosse: Tigers shoot down Stars, Stormhawks

Farmington forward Jake Bauman scored the game-winning goal last Tuesday against Holy Angels.

Farmington survived a scare to pick up its first-ever lacrosse win over Holy Angels last Tuesday at McMurray Field in St. Paul.

The Tigers stormed to a commanding 10-2 lead before the Stars rallied with eight unanswered goals to tie the score and force overtime. In the extra session, Jake Bauman scored his third goal of the game to lift the Tigers to a 3-2 victory.

Brendan Berg and Chris Fitzgibbons each added two goals for the winners. Berg also helped out with two assists and Mitch Hilton and Corey Rudrud each provided one goal and two assists.

Single goals came from Garrett Gunderson and Kevin Clifton.

Goaltender Matt Heinzerling stopped 11 Holy Angels shots as the Tigers evened their record at 2-2.

The Tigers extended their winning streak to three games with their second straight road win last Thursday night, a 10-6 decision at Chaska/Chanhassen.

The score was tied 5-5 at halftime, but the Tigers cranked up their defense in the second half and limited the Stormhawks to one goal over the final 24 minutes.

Rudrud ran his season total to 14 goals with a team-high four goals on five shots. Gunderson and Berg each scored twice and Bauman and Hilton tacked on one goal apiece.

Fitzgibbons helped out with two assists.

Heinzerling picked up another win in net, stopping 13 shots.

The Tigers (3-2) will try to continue their winning streak tomorrow night at Hastings. They are back home Tuesday night against Rochester John Marshall.
