Golf: Trippel's 82 leads young golf team

The Farmington boys golf team was already in a tricky position this year with a very young lineup. Throw in weather-related delays that meant the team didn't play its first meet until April 30 and it was hard to know how things would go.

Turns out, not too bad.

The Tiger boys finished fifth in their first Missota Conference competition of the season.

The Tigers scored scored 336 in the meet at Creeks Bend in New Prague. Chanhassen won the meet with a 287, New Prague was second with a 314, Shakopee was third with 315 and Chaska was fourth with 327. Red Wing (343), Holy Angels (348) and Northfield (354) rounded out the field.

"I am very pleased with our first outing this year," coach Jon Holmes said. "Having virtually our entire varsity roster graduate last year, it was an unknown on just how many matches our newcomers would need to find their stride. The entire roster played pretty well for the most part."

Holmes said the team still has room to improve.

Sophomore Jake Trippel led the way for the Tigers, carding a 41 on each nine to finish with an 82. Freshman Erik Holmstrom scored an 83, senior Nate Anderson had an 84, freshman Jake Jensen had an 87 and seniors Garrett Heidelberger and Grant Hauswirth carded a 91 and a 97, respectively, to complete the varsity roster.
