Swimming & diving: Tigers fourth at Greyhound

For what head coach Jen Marshall described as a “team-bonding trip,” Saturday’s Greyhound Invite in Duluth went pretty well for the Farmington girls swimming and diving team.

Despite missing some varsity regulars from the lineup, the Tigers still finished fourth out of 12 teams with 237 points at Lincoln Park Middle School in Duluth. Prior Lake ran away with the championship 410-283 over runner-up Chaska.

Chelsea Gehrke provided the team’s top individual finishes, placing second in the 100 butterfly in 1 minute, 3.78 seconds and third in the 200 individual medley in 2:21.22. Gehrke also combined with Hannah Seitzinger, Ellie Sundet and Kirsten Kracke for a seventh-place showing in the 200 freestyle relay. Gehrke, Seitzinger and Kracke also joined Chloe Holton for an eighth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Sundet, Sara Kintner, Emily Ley and Catherine Gehrke added a seventh-place swim in the 400 freestyle relay.

Catherine Gehrke also placed eighth in the 200 freestyle and supplied a fifth-place individual finish in the 500 freestyle. Teammate Lexie Bray was 10th in the 500 freestyle and tacked on a seventh-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Kracke shined in the freestyle swims, placing sixth in both the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Kintner was also a double individual place-winner, claiming eighth in the 100 breaststroke and ninth in the 200 freestyle. Nikki Cayard added a 10th-place finish in the 1-meter dive.

The Tigers are back at Dodge Middle School pool this weekend when they host the True Team section meet.
