Swimming & diving: Tigers take a step back
One week after raving about his team’s performance and potential, Farmington boys swim coach Ryan Hamen didn’t have much to say about his team’s latest outing.
The Tigers scored 1,631 points to finish fifth in the 10-team field at the Apple Valley Invitational Dec. 28. Stillwater won the meet with 2,443.5 points and Lakeville South was second with 1,856.
“Not a lot of good swims today,” Hamen said.
Farmington’s best performance of the meet came from the 200 freestyle relay team of Eric Schimmel, Brandon Dion, Daniel Berg and Jonathan Kingsbury. They finished fifth in 1:36.59.
The Tigers got a sixth-place finish from Berg in the 50 freestyle (23.91) and a seventh-place 3:36.09 in the 400 freestyle relay from the team of Berg, Dion, Schimmel and Garrett Haugen.
Farmington swimmers finished ninth in the 100 and 500 freestyle — Schimmel and Austin Kueck, respectively — and in the 100 breaststroke — Robin DeCastro. Ben Gunderson took 10th in the 100 backstroke. The 200 medley relay team also took 10th.
Spencer Kabran was 11th in the 100 breaststroke, Dion was 12th in the 100 butterfly, Berg was 13th in the 100 freestyle and Kueck was 15th in the 200 individual medley.
