Boys golf: Jensen qualifies for state
Three area golfers qualified for this week’s Class 3A state golf meet at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids with their performances at last week’s section meets.
Farmington placed fourth in the Section 1AAA boys competition last week at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City. Jake Jensen paced the Tigers and qualified for state with a two-day total of 157 that included a 75 on Day 2.
The Tigers improved three strokes on Day 2 to bring their team total to 661. Lucas Berg backed Jensen with a 161. Cole Stanoch (168), Aric Szambelan (176), Kyle Berg (181) and Darby Grengs (182) also competed.
Junior Gretchen McDonald and senior Jessica Petersen both qualified individually while leading the Irish girls to second in the Section 3AAA meet at Bunker Hills last Monday. McDonald placed second individually by shooting a 36-hole total of 166, just one stroke behind winner Aayushi Sarkar of team champion Woodbury. Petersen fired a 178 to grab the seventh and final qualifying spot.
Emily Hackerson, Alyssa O’Donnell, Sydney Regalado and Renee Boldus rounded out the lineup for the Irish, who finished 39 strokes behind Woodbury with a team total of 729.
