Girls hockey: Tigers play to 2-2 tie at Owatonna
The Farmington girls hockey team put an end to its three-game losing skid with a 2-2 overtime tie against Owatonna Saturday at the Four Seasons Centre.
The Tigers had their chances to come away with the win, but their 2-0 lead slipped away in the final nine minutes of regulation. Owatonna's Payton Noble scored the tying goal with 1:29 remaining and the teams remained deadlocked through an eight-minute overtime period.
Grace Gavin opened the scoring with a goal 11:30 into the second period. Madeline Oines and Rachael Welzin provided assists.
The score stayed 1-0 until Brooke Raske scored an unassisted goal of her own early in the third to make it 2-0 Tigers. Owatonna got in the scoring column at 8:45 of the third and then tied it on Noble's shot past Farmington goaltender Maddie Bowe at 15:31. Bowe finished with 25 saves as the Tigers posted a 38-27 shot advantage.
The Tigers also went 0 for 5 on the power play, making them 0 for 12 in their last two games.
The Tigers (1-4-1) opened the week with a 3-1 loss to Wayzata last Tuesday at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
Michaela Tonsager provided the lone Farmington goal in the second period. Bria Donnelly assisted.
The Tigers opened their Missota Conference slate Tuesday at Northfield and are back in action tomorrow night at home against Chaska/Chanhassen.
