Tiger tennis sweeps Jefferson

The Farmington boys tennis team started the spring season in promising fashion with a 7-0 sweep of Bloomington Jefferson Monday afternoon at the Boeckman Middle School courts.

"We played very well up and down the lineup," Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. "I like what I saw today. I think being outside in the elements longer than every other team in the metro has given us a quick start and it showed today."

Freshman Bennett Lagro moved up to No. 1 singles after a solid eighth-grade season a year ago and responded with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Seventh-grader Jake Bauer won by the same score in his first career varsity match.

Returning letterwinner Ivan Rodriguez also won handily by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and freshman Grady Hauswirth completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-4 win in his first varsity match.

Austin Rau and Austin Tremmel combined on a 6-0, 6-0 shutout to lead the Tigers in doubles play. Trent Kortenbusch and Jon Zakoski cruised 6-3, 6-2 in their first match playing together at No. 1 doubles and Drew Corraro and Jake Spindler combined to win 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

The Tigers hope to compete again tomorrow against Park of Cottage Grove.
