Tennis: Owatonna moves past Tigers, 7-0

Third-seeded Owatonna swept No. 6 Farmington 7-0 in hot and windy conditions last Tuesday in the opening round of the Section 1AA team tournament.

"The heat and wind were a terror, but we were able to keep them from frustrating us severely," Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. "They are a tough team, although we played okay. Normally routine shots became a challenge for both teams."

Ivan Rodriguez won the most games for the Tigers at No. 3 singles where he lost 3-6, 2-6. Bennett Lagro fell 1-6, 3-6 at No. 1 singles and Jake Bauer lost 2-6, 2-6 at No. 2 singles. Jon Zakoski played a long match at No. 4 singles, but came away with a 1-6, 1-6 loss.

Austin Rau and Grant Hauswirth managed to take four games in a 2-6, 2-6 loss at No. 2 doubles.

The Tigers begin play in the Section 1AA individual tournament this afternoon at Rochester Mayo High School.
