Volleyball FHS volleyball takes 17-11 record into Section 1AAA

The Farmington volleyball team wrapped up a 17-11 regular season by losing a five-set thriller to Shakopee last Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.

The Tigers won Game 1 25-21, dropped the next two 24-26 and 18-25, and rallied to take Game 4 25-22 before falling 12-15 to the Sabers in the decisive fifth game.

Despite the loss, the team earned the No. 5 seed and a home game in the Section 1AAA tournament. The Tigers hosted 12th-seeded Red Wing on Wednesday night, with the winner advancing to face No. 4 Albert Lea in the quarterfinals.

The Tiger offense amassed 61 kills in the five-set finale against Shakopee. Kenzie Hesse and Morgan Cecchettini led the charge with 16 apiece, followed by Emma Fahning with 14 and Vanessa Garske with nine.

Five different players had at least 17 digs, led by Diana Comes with 26. Fahning had 24, Ruthie Schmitt 20, Hesse 18 and Hanna Baer 17. Schmitt also put up a season-high 50 set assists.
