Gymnastics: Season-best just enough for Tigers

Farmington’s highest score of the season was just enough Friday night at Chanhassen.

The Tiger gymnasts scored 137.375 points to edge the StormHawks, who turned in a 137.225. The team’s previous high score was a 137.35 they turned in two weeks ago at the Farmington Invitational.

“What a close meet!” Farmington coach Lynn Bauman said. “We are getting much steadier. Now it’s crunch time. We need to keep it clean and, of course, stick it.”

Amanda Davenport once again led the Tigers at Chanhassen, finishing first in the vault with a 9.25, the uneven bars with an 8.7 and the all-around with a 37.725. She also tied for second with teammate Rachel Kiminski in the beam with an 8.65.

Farmington’s other first-place finish was supplied by Abby Schwartz, who topped the rest of the field in the balance beam with an 8.7. She was also fifth in the uneven bars.

Tahra Eckert added a third-place finish for the Tigers in the all-around. She was third in the vault and fifth in the floor exercise.

The Tigers compete again tomorrow night at home against Red Wing. Events begin at 6:30 at the Instructional Services Center.
