Wrestling Hoeve wins 100th, earns all-league

Three Farmington wrestlers picked up all-conference honors at last Thursday’s Missota Conference quadrangular at Northfield.

Jamin LeDuc, Joe Hoeve and Godfrey Mpetey each went 3-0 for the Tigers, who finished with a record of 1-2. They opened with a 29-28 loss to New Prague on criteria before downing Northfield 64-9. Shakopee defeated the Tigers 43-20 in the final dual of the day.

“We wrestled well, just came up on the short end,” Farmington coach Chad Olson said.

Hoeve, the state’s eighth-ranked 182-pounder, became the 13th Farmington wrestler to reach 100 career wins.

Victor Gliva, Taylor Venz, John Walz and CJ Wynings each won two matches for the Tigers. Brayden Chapman added his 60th career win at 145 pounds.

The Tigers were back on the mat Friday in Rochester where they split a triangular with Owatonna and Rochester Mayo. They defeated Mayo 50-18 and lost to Owatonna 36-15.

Venz, Hoeve and Wynings each finished 2-0.

The Tigers are back in action tonight at Stillwater. They then compete at Anoka tomorrow night before opening the Section 1AAA team tournament next Thursday.
