Swimming & diving: Bovee leads Tigers at state

The Farmington swimming and diving team capped off its season by competing in four events over the weekend at the state meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.

The Tigers didn’t score any points, but coach Ryan Hamen said his team was satisfied with the experience, nonetheless.

“The boys were very happy getting to state. It was a bit of a surprise to get that far,” Hamen said.

The Tigers’ highest finish came in the 1-meter dive where junior Jonathan Bovee finished 17th with a score of 224.45 points. That made him first alternate for the 16-diver finals.

Senior Daniel Berg swam in Farmington’s other three events. Individually, he earned 23rd in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.17 seconds and 20th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.05. It took a spot in the top 16 to advance to the consolation finals.

Berg, Eric Schimmel, Garrett Haugen and Brandon Dion added a 22nd-place time of 3:19.61 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Wayzata outscored runner-up East Ridge 237-194 for the Class 2A team title. Eden Prairie, Hastings and Minnetonka rounded out the top five.
