Friday, Bali, Burns lead Blazing Cats to 2nd place

Burnsville/Lakeville/Farmiington Blazing Cats players Cody Bali, Michael Burns and Steve Friday were named to the all-tournament team after last weekend’s Adapted Floor Hockey, CI division, state tournament.

The awards recognize student athletes who demonstrate exceptional leadership, team commitment, athletic ability and leadership during the state tournament. Athletes are selected by a panel of coaches attending the tournament.

The Blazing Cats defeated Maple Grove 13-1 and previously-unbeaten North Suburban 8-1 before falling to undefeated New Prague/TCU/LSH/Belle Plaine/Jordan 9-7 in the championship game Saturday afternoon at Bloomington Jefferson High School.

The Blazing Cats finished with a record of 10-2. In their opening-round win, Friday collected seven goals and handed out three assists. Bali had 13 saves in goal and Terry Kalm of Farmington had three assists, as well.

Against defending state champion North Suburban, Friday and Burns combined for all eight goals and six assists.

Bali stopped 20 of 21 shots.

Friday scored four goals and Burns added one in the back-and-forth championship game loss to New Prague.
