Farmington boys lacrosse: Tigers improve record to 6-2

Defense continued to be a strong suit for the Farmington boys lacrosse team during last Tuesday’s victory over Hill-Murray.

The Tigers built an 8-1 lead through three quarters and coasted to a 9-5 victory in Maplewood. The team now stands at 6-2 and has allowed just 38 goals in eight games.

“We played solid defense throughout. The final score wasn’t indicative of the game flow.… We got to play everyone in the fourth,” Farmington coach Paul Sorensen said. “Needless to say I wanted us to finish stronger, but it’s nice to get everyone in the game.”

The Tigers led 1-0 through the opening quarter, but soon took control with five goals in the second.

Nick Hinnenkamp led the offense with a hat trick and two assists. Corey Rudrud scored twice and Tyler Jette assisted on three goals.

Mitch Grengs, Kevin Clifton, Chris Fitzgibbons and Mitch Hilton each added single goals.

Goaltender Kyle Kratz stopped 10 of Hill-Murray’s 15 shots. Michael Thompson won nine of 15 face-offs.

The Tigers hosted Owatonna Tuesday at Tiger Stadium and are back on the road tonight against Holy Angels at the Star Dome in Richfield.

“We are looking to finish strong this year with the hopes of still getting a No. 1 seed in the section,” Sorensen said.
